Lenggries – the mountain paradise
This idyllic community on the Isar river is surrounded by magnificent mountains. Allow your gaze to wander from the Karwendel to the Zugspitze. Experience traditional cabins and alps as you immerse yourself in our delightful nature.
A mountain landscape for all occasions
In Lenggries summer transforms alpine nature into an enormous recreational arena.
Imposing mountains, deep green alps, traditional houses with balconies where geraniums bloom in brilliant colors and the Isar river snaking through the valley between pebble banks and wetlands – Lenggries, Germany’s largest community by area, has many different facets and enchants those who want to experience sports, fun and relaxation in a lovely storybook landscape.
Cyclists will find 500 kilometers of trails by the Isar river, along historic routes like the traditional Via Bavarica Tyrolensis or through expansive meadows. Ambitious athletes and mountain bikers on the other hand are drawn to one of the numerous demanding tours. They head for traditional alpine cabins, charming lookoffs and the steep challenges of mighty mountain flanks.
Brauneck – a hiking paradise
With a length of around 140 kilometers, the network of prime hiking trails winding through the Lenggries mountains promises plenty of variety as well. From climbing tours and summiteering to hiking from cabin to cabin to alpine pasture hikes – the region has something to suit all tastes.
The Große Höhenweg on the Brauneck, the Lenggries landmark mountain, is probably among the most delightful routes with a unique panorama: when visibility is good, one can see over Starnberger See (lake) all the way to Munich where even the futuristic Allianz-Arena glitters on the horizon. To the south, the sparkling alpine peaks of the Karwendel and Wettersteingebirge with the Zugspitze reach for the heavens.
Along the way, hikers can fortify themselves in one of ten mountain cabins featuring the most marvelous delicacies of the regional cuisine in the nature paradise of Brauneck.
Leisure time fun for the whole family
Adventure seekers also find what they are looking for on the Brauneck since the mountain transforms itself into a giant recreational arena with unusual attractions during the summer: here the whole family can amuse themselves, for example on a bull cart, a tricycle for grownups, or get on board the Jaudenhang-Flitzer summer coasting slide and let the head wind blow away the cobwebs as you race downhill to the valley.
In the climbing park, those who are free from giddiness can jump over their shadow afterwards. In the nearby falconry and alpine zoo, rare raptors display their flying skills and fluffy quadrupeds wait to be petted.
