Experience nature and discover Franz Marc in the climatic spa town of Kochel am See
The magnificent location directly on Kochelsee (lake) before the imposing mountain backdrop of the Herzogstand makes the traditional climatic spa town of Kochel am See a popular vacation and excursion destination for families, hikers, cyclists and art lovers.
A refreshing dip in Kochelsee (lake) or the “trimini” family baths and water park, a trip with the Herzogstandbahn railway to the lookoff mountain and a relaxing motorboat ride are sure to please visitors, both young and old alike.
Schloss Neuschwanstein castle, the Bavarian state capital of Munich and numerous excursion destinations are close by.
The community also owes its fame to the Bavarian folk hero “Schmied von Kochel”.
Mountains and more …
The glorious mountain landscape offers countless tours for families, hikers, ramblers and climbers on the comfort of groomed trails or high up on peaks with splendid views. Cyclists can arrive via the Bodensee-Königsee bike trail, climb to higher altitudes by mountain bike or take their time exploring the marsh landscape with their families. Ski slopes, cross-country ski runs and horse drawn sleigh rides provide fun in the snow during the winter months.
Kochelsee and Walchensee lakes
Making the hearts of water sports enthusiasts and anglers beat higher: swimming, sailing, surfing, diving, angling and boating are the order of the day.
With its impressive water pipes fed from Walchensee (lake) 200m higher up, the Erlebniskraftwerk Walchensee power plant can be spotted from afar.
Enjoy art and experience nature
On picturesque Kochelsee (lake), these go hand in hand! Franz Marc Museum is well worth a visit, presenting traveling exhibits of 20th century art in addition to the works of the painter himself. The “Franz Marc entdecken” discovery art tour with plates takes you through the “Fischerviertel” fisherman’s quarter with its traditional farm houses to Kochelsee (lake).
